Climate Action Campaign Statement on Chairwoman Stabenow’s Climate Change Fighting Farm Bill Draft

Today, the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition & Forestry Committee introduced a draft Farm Bill (i.e. Chairwoman’s Mark) that would make the $19 billion in Inflation Reduction Act funding for climate smart agriculture permanent. The funded  programs include the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP), Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), and the Agriculture Conservation Easement Program (ACEP). In response, Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign, issued the following statement:

“Today, Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow and the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition & Forestry Committee rolled out a comprehensive draft Farm Bill that should be the blueprint for the Farm Bill that Congress finalizes.

This Chairwoman’s draft makes permanent the increased IRA funding for vital and popular conservation programs that provide farmers with the necessary resources to limit their contributions to climate change while also protecting their farms from climate change’s most catastrophic impacts. Ensuring that this increased funding stays focused on climate as reflected in this draft is a  key priority for our community.

These programs are in high demand from farmers and in fact have been oversubscribed in the past. Making them permanent is a testament to Chairwoman Stabenow’s leadership and her  commitment to fighting climate change. Her draft bill  lays out a strategy for the entire agricultural sector that will bolster sustainability and resilience. We hope others in Congress will join her in this forward-thinking vision for agriculture, ensuring a brighter, more sustainable future for farmers and our planet alike.”
