CAC Director Alt: “We celebrate today, but tomorrow the work continues.”

Washington, D.C. – President Joe Biden today signed the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 into law. Climate Action Campaign Director Margie Alt released the following statement in response:

“Today, climate won. The Inflation Reduction Act is the most sweeping climate and clean energy legislation in the nation’s history, making historic investments in our climate, communities, clean energy, and jobs. With this new law, President Biden, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and climate champions in Congress have ended decades of inaction and put our nation on the path to stave off the worst impacts of the climate crisis,” said Alt.

“We celebrate today, but tomorrow the work continues. With all the good it does, the bill also does some harm to our climate by increasing drilling and will cause pain to already overburdened frontline communities. We will work together as a community to right those wrongs. And, we need more solutions for pollution that will get us the rest of the way to the president’s commitment to cut climate pollution by at least half by 2030, while delivering on the promise of a clean, healthy future for all people in the United States.”
