CAC’s Rose Garr Applauds New Bill from Senator Chuck Schumer and Senate Dems to Reinstate Key Clean Energy Tax Credits
WASHINGTON – This past weekend, Senator Chuck Schumer, Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, and more than 30 Senate Democrats introduced legislation to reinstate critical clean energy tax credits that were gutted by Congressional Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill. These tax credits, among other clean energy investments, had led to a manufacturing renaissance, hundreds of thousands of jobs, lowered energy bills for American families, and made America a global leader in clean energy and clean transportation innovation. Below is a statement from Rose Garr, Senior Director of Government Affairs at the Climate Action Campaign, applauding the bill and its goal of restoring this key driver of growth and healthier, more prosperous communities.
“At a time when costs are top-of-mind for Americans, clean energy sources like wind and solar deliver affordable, reliable energy, cleaner air, and a safer climate, as well as creating tens of thousands of jobs. The Big Ugly Bill – the most anti-environmental legislation in history – gutted critical investments in clean energy and clean transportation, a move that will lead to lost jobs, higher energy prices, increased climate pollution and more dangerous and deadly weather. I applaud Senators Schumer and Wyden and Senate Democrats for standing up to these brazen attacks on clean energy and urge Congress to pass this bill. The American people deserve the cost-savings, good-paying jobs, and healthier air and climate that clean energy brings – in other words, they deserve to get our clean economy back on track. This bill is an excellent start.”
Additional details:
- This bill would reinstate three tax credits gutted by the Big Ugly Bill: One on residential clean energy and two on clean energy storage technology.
- The pro-polluter policies codified in the Big Ugly Bill have already resulted in the cancellation of $22 billion in planned clean energy projects through the first half of the year, including $6.7 billion in June alone, in anticipation of the bill’s passage.
- Ending clean energy investments could cost us up to 9 million jobs projected to be created in the next 10 years and will take away jobs from hundreds of thousands of Americans.
