CAC’s MARGIE ALT ON VIRGINIA GOVERNOR ABIGAIL SPANBERGER’S RESPONSE TO THE 2026 STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS
WASHINGTON – Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign, released the following statement in response to Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger’s response to the 2026 State of the Union Address:
“As energy demand surges across Virginia and across the country, we need more power on the grid, not less. Removing wind and solar doesn’t create affordability; it creates a gaping hole, families are paying the price on their monthly energy bills. Governor Spanberger understands this reality. That’s why she’s fought to keep the Dominion offshore wind project on track, expanded energy storage to stabilize prices, led Virginia back into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, and returned hundreds of millions of dollars to Virginia families for energy efficiency programs.
“These choices are pragmatic. Despite what President Trump might be saying and doing, banning clean energy doesn’t lower costs, it raises them. Solar is the fastest way to bring new power online. The clean energy infrastructure being built today is what will protect Virginia families from price spikes tomorrow. We applaud Gov. Spanberger’s commitment to affordable clean energy and appreciate her demonstrated support for lowering costs, creating jobs, and protecting our climate.”
