CAC’S MARGIE ALT ON JEFFREY CLARK’S DEPARTURE FROM THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

WASHINGTON—Jeffrey Clark has left his position in the Trump Administration, according to news reports. Clark helped lead the charge to repeal the EPA’s Endangerment Finding, the scientific and legal cornerstone of federal climate policy. He was also investigated for his role in an alleged plot to overturn the 2020 election, pardoned by the very president who then handed him extraordinary and unchecked power. Margie Alt, director of the Climate Action Campaign, issued the following statement in response:

“Jeffrey Clark may be gone from the White House regulatory office, but the damage he leaves behind is very much still with us. It will be measured in corporate profits and American lives prematurely ended by climate change and dangerous pollution.

“Clark used his perch to systematically dismantle the environmental and public health protections that Americans depend on, opening the floodgates to rollbacks that will expose families to more pollution, more extreme weather, and higher energy costs for years to come.

“Clark epitomizes the anti-democratic and corrupt nature of an administration that will stop at nothing to put polluters first and treats the rest of us as expendable. He served in secret, departed in secret, and the White House won’t even acknowledge he’s gone. That is not how a government accountable to the people is supposed to work.

“The Climate Action Campaign will fight to restore the protections Donald Trump — with Clark’s help — has worked so hard to destroy. The American people deserve clean air, a stable climate, and a government that answers to them, not a government led by industry sympathizers who ignore science and the law.”
