CAC’s MARGIE ALT ON CALIFORNIA SENATOR ALEX PADILLA’S RESPONSE TO THE 2026 STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS
WASHINGTON – Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign, released the following statement in response to California Senator Alex Padilla’s response to the 2026 State of the Union Address:
“Tonight, Senator Padilla spoke for the millions of Americans who are suffering at the hands of harmful Trump administration policies that treat people as if we are expendable.
“From leaving Los Angelenos struggling to recover from historic wildfires without necessary help to clean up and rebuild, to banning clean energy driving up energy bills in California and across the country, Trump and his cronies are playing politics with our lives, our health, and our wallets. They cannot pollute their way to a safe, strong, and prosperous future for all Americans. In fact quite the opposite: Trump’s policies are making us sick, ruining our environment, and making life more expensive for our families. And despite his rhetoric Trump can’t undercut clean energy – which is the cheapest and fastest way to get more energy on the grid – and expect American families to thank him as their energy bills soar.
“As Sen. Padilla said, ‘The truth is that the State of our Union does not feel strong for everyone. Not when the costs of rent, food, and electricity keep rising.’
“The vision for a future in which all Americans have a chance to thrive looks like the vision laid out tonight by Sen. Padilla. Thank you, Senator, for ‘working to lower costs, put an end to the chaos, and fight corruption.’"
