CAC’s Alt: Senate Reconciliation Bill Raises Rates and Reneges on America’s Clean Energy Future
Washington–Senate Republicans today passed their anti-climate, anti-health, anti-clean energy, and anti-job growth reconciliation bill that makes massive cuts to climate, clean energy, and other investments to deliver unprecedented tax cuts for billionaires. Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign issued the following statement in response to this development:
“The Senate has turned its back on our clean energy future, raising our utility bills while mortgaging our health and environment to deliver massive tax breaks for billionaires. This bill is the most anti-environment bill in history. As a direct result of today’s vote, hundreds of thousands of Americans will lose their jobs. Families will pay higher energy bills. Climate pollution will increase, and kids will struggle with asthma and other respiratory problems. And, more people will suffer from devastating extreme weather catastrophes. This travesty of a bill benefits only billionaires at the cost of every other person in this country.”
- Additional Information:
Repealing the clean energy tax credits will drive up energy bills for families and job creators. - Before the 2024 election, clean energy companies producing wind and solar energy represented the fastest-growing economic sector in the country.
- They had business certainty and that created more than 400,000 jobs and drove down the cost of clean energy below that of fossil fuels.
- Fossil fuel energy prices are up since January.
