CAC: Trump’s Budget Puts Polluters First
Cuts to EPA, clean energy would make America more dangerous and polluted, its citizens sicker and poorer.
WASHINGTON–Today, the White House released the President’s Discretionary Budget Request, which asks Congress to pass steep spending cuts on clean energy, pollution protections, environmental justice, and public lands conservation. Rose Garr, Senior Director of Government Affairs at the Climate Action Campaign (CAC), released the following statement in response:
“Donald Trump’s budget proposal makes his priorities clear: Polluters win, everyone else loses. Slashing the EPA budget by 54% will let big polluters off the hook – and we’ll pay for Trump’s massive giveaway to the wealthy with our jobs, our health and our future. Air that’s safe to breathe and water safe to drink are on the chopping block. Direly needed funding for communities hard-hit by pollution is on the chopping block. A healthy climate is on the chopping block. Trump’s promotion of fossil fuel production will increase pollution and illness, especially among already vulnerable people. His cuts to electric vehicle infrastructure will put Americans out of work, limit choices for consumers, and keep Americans hostage to wildly unpredictable gas prices.
“This ‘skinny’ budget benefits fat cats only. If you are a billionaire you get tax breaks. If you are a working-class American you will pay more for energy, food, and everyday expenses. And to add injury to insult, this budget will break our environment by increasing pollution, limiting clean energy use, and failing to tackle the climate crisis.
“Donald Trump’s vision for America is more dangerous and more polluted, making Americans sicker and poorer. This budget proposal would harm nearly every American in one way or another; unless you are one of his billionaire buddies.”
