CAC: EPA Considers Forcing Families to Choose Between Paying for Air Conditioning or Food
The EPA is reportedly reviving plans to terminate $7 billion in Solar For All grants.
WASHINGTON–The Environmental Protection Agency is reportedly planning to permanently terminate $7 billion in grants for the Solar For All program, an initiative that helps low- and middle-income homeowners install rooftop solar panels and supports community solar developments. Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign (CAC), issued the following statement:
"Energy prices are soaring this summer, pushed higher by dangerous heat and unprecedented demand. Solar for All is helping make sure no one is forced to choose between paying their energy bill and putting food on the table. It’s enabling more families to stop relying on polluting fossil fuels that contribute to frequent, deadly, and expensive extreme weather disasters. The EPA’s efforts to terminate billions in congressionally authorized grants is cruel, bad for the climate, and bad for the economy. It’s also against the law. Courts have repeatedly forced the EPA to release these funds and others that it has illegally frozen, and this plan should meet the same fate."
