“I support the strongest standard on carbon emissions from power plants, alternatively called the Cut Climate Pollution Plan, from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), because we believe that the business community is supportive of decarbonization and celebrate how enthusiastically industry in our state has embraced the need, announcing their own reduction goals. The state’s energy portfolio is the largest factor in whether businesses and municipalities are able to meet their emissions reduction goals. This standard will ensure that the investments being made in Michigan do not put our state at a competitive disadvantage, and to ensure accountability for greenhouse gas reduction commitments. I urge you to reward best practices and companies that are already working to meet the sustainability expectations of their investors and stakeholders by advancing this standard. This is the right plan for the right time.”
