CAC’s Alt Applauds New Report Detailing Trump and Fossil Fuel’s Corrupt Deal
WASHINGTON–Today, Senate Democrats released The Billion Dollar Deal: How the Fossil Fuel Industry Bought the Trump Administration, Cashed In, and Left Americans to Pay the Price. The report investigates the outcomes of then-candidate Donald Trump’s meeting with fossil fuel executives at Mar-a-Lago in 2024, where he promised to deliver on their agenda if they gave him $1 billion for his campaign. CAC Director Margie Alt released the following statement in response:
"This report confirms what we long suspected: Fossil fuel companies bought Trump a second term, and their payout has been beyond their wildest dreams. From day one, the Trump administration has put fossil fuel companies and their billionaire owners at the top, middle, and end of their agenda. Meanwhile, the health, economic wellbeing, and safety of the American people is nowhere to be found.
"While the fossil fuel industry rakes in record profits, American families can’t pay their energy bills. As the Trump administration erases any barrier to their ability to pollute without limits, climate change-driven extreme weather – caused by their pollution – is wreaking havoc on Americans’ lives. We applaud Leader Schumer and Ranking Member Whitehouse for shining a light on the corrupt payoff that Trump and the fossil fuel industry would rather we forget."
