House Republicans Propose "Polluter’s Paradise" Budget as Americans Brace for Higher Prices, Higher Temps and High Anxiety
Washington, DC – House Republicans are targeting the agencies that protect Americans from climate disasters, especially devastating heading into the summer of 2026, as deadly heat, wildfires, and floods are already bearing down on communities nationwide. The House Appropriations Committee proposed a radical fiscal year 2027 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies budget that would undermine climate and clean energy investments at the expense of our health and environment. In response, Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign (CAC), issued the following statement:
“House Republicans have unveiled a devastating Polluters First budget that would gut the agencies that stand between American families and toxic air, contaminated water, terrible health outcomes, and the accelerating devastation of climate-driven disasters. The timing couldn’t be more reckless. Families across the country are already bracing for deadly heat waves, flash floods, and wildfire smoke as the climate crisis exacerbates extreme weather conditions. And all of this while communities are still rebuilding from last season’s catastrophes — watching their insurance costs skyrocket, wondering if they can afford to stay in their own homes, and fearing the damage and costs to come. The climate crisis isn’t a future threat. It’s here, it’s worsening, and this budget defies reality, science, and the EPA’s core mission to protect human health.
"Slashing EPA’s research capabilities and environmental protections isn’t fiscal responsibility. It’s a direct assault on the health and safety of every American. If approved, this budget would drive up costs on everything from energy to healthcare, putting our communities at risk and making our families sicker. We will fight this budget, and we urge Congress to reject it."
