Trump Administration Hands Polluters Another Corporate Giveaway At Our Expense: Delaying Vehicle Pollution Standards

WASHINGTON – Today, the Trump Administration and its EPA proposed a delay of vehicle criteria pollutant standards, handing polluters another corporate giveaway that will force higher costs on drivers, cause and exacerbate chronic respiratory disease, and create confusion in the automotive industry. Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign (CAC), released the following statement in response:

“Once again, the Trump administration is handing big polluters a massive giveaway at everyone else’s expense. Trump and Lee Zeldin’s Polluters First Agenda intentionally prioritizes corporate profits at the cost of the health and safety of the public.

“The EPA’s own data confirms what’s at stake: Weaker vehicle standards mean more smog and more toxic pollutants, resulting in more families paying the price with higher incidence of asthma attacks, heart and lung disease, and premature deaths. Children, the elderly, and frontline communities are the hardest hit.

“The Trump administration has rigged the system against our families. So many of us are already overwhelmed by healthcare costs and inflation. Making the air dirtier to benefit polluters adds additional costs to the American people. It is cruel and unconscionable. These standards are the difference between clean air and unhealthy air that makes us sick. Americans aren’t expendable, but that’s exactly how the Trump EPA is treating us.”
