CAC: Americans Will Once Again Pay More for Trump’s Latest Attack on Clean Energy
Courts have already blocked several of Trump’s attempts to halt offshore wind projects.
WASHINGTON – Today, the Department of the Interior (DOI) announced the immediate pause of offshore wind projects in the northeast U.S., due to “national security risks identified in recently completed classified reports" by the Department of War (formerly Department of Defense). Despite courts blocking a similar stop work order on one of the projects in September, the Trump administration has broadened its attack to all offshore wind projects currently under construction. Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign (CAC), released the following statement in response:
“The Trump administration has launched yet another baseless attack on clean energy. Today’s decision to stop construction on five offshore wind projects – poised to start bringing safe, cheap power to millions of Americans as soon as next year, will make the energy affordability crisis facing most Americans worse.
"At the same time, Trump is propping up dirty, expensive coal plants slated for retirement, and giving handouts to fossil fuel billionaires – which will mean tons more pollution that accelerates the climate crisis and hurts public health, while doing little to bring down costs.
"Courts have already weighed in multiple times to block Trump’s illegal and reckless attacks on offshore wind. But today’s attacks will mean real harms for Americans’ wallets, our health, and the climate. It’s ideology over economics, polluters over people, and it’s the public who pays the price.”
