CAC’s ALT: Reported Endangerment Finding Review Proposal is a Back-Door Payoff for Big Polluters 

Climate Chaos Plan is “An All-Out Assault on the Environment and Health of Every Person in America”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Trump administration has taken the first step in rescinding the Endangerment Finding, which requires EPA to protect people from the pollution that causes climate change and its impacts, such as extreme weather and health harms that threaten the lives of everyone, particularly the most vulnerable.

The Environmental Protection Agency posted a proposed rule for White House “review” that combines the Endangerment Finding with a review of standards designed to ensure cleaner cars and trucks on our roads. Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign, issued the following statement in response to the proposed Climate Chaos Plan:

“The administration has launched their Climate Chaos Plan, another all-out assault on the environment and the health of every person, family, and community in America. If successful in repealing the Endangerment Finding, this action will undermine the EPA’s ability to tackle the climate crisis. It will put people at higher risk, raise electricity prices, and make driving cars dirtier and more expensive. The Trump administration is endangering our lives,  and threatening clean air, clean water, and a sustainable climate. The EPA’s proposal is a back-door payoff for polluters at our expense. Nobody wants dirty air, dirty water, more pollution or more climate disasters, but that is exactly what Lee Zeldin and Donald Trump are giving us.”

Additional Information:

• The Endangerment Finding, affirmed by the 2007 Massachusetts v. EPA Supreme Court decision, is the legal basis for the EPA’s authority to limit climate pollution under the Clean Air Act.
• This proposed rule will leave all Americans more vulnerable to wildfires, sea level rise, and increasingly deadly extreme heat and weather. It will inject more uncertainty into our energy markets at a time when prices are unpredictable. It will exacerbate health impacts from climate change, such as increased asthma attacks and heat-related deaths, that are becoming more frequent.
